As much as it pains me to discuss what is happening in regard to the racial injustices and senseless killings of Black people in this country, I can not turn a blind eye or ignore the elephant in the room. Before we can begin to heal, we must understand and appreciate what makes us unique and the struggles that some groups face. This means there are hard conversations that need to be had. Blacks/African-Americans and other communities of color continue to be victimized for the color of their skin and the situation seems worse now than it has been in recent years.

As a front-line health worker there are people and communities that depend on you and trust that you when interact with them, the care and support you provide will be genuine and without prejudice or discrimination. If you have never addressed race head on there has never been a better time to do so.
Join me on Friday, June 5th at 7pm CST as we discuss The State of RACE in America. This will be a conversation for front-line workers that serve people and communities of color. This will be a safe space where we will discuss current events and you will be allowed to ask questions, share your experiences, and explore racial matters. The point of this conversation is to help you so you can continue to help those you serve, especially the people and patients that don't look like you. There will be no PowerPoint, there will be no bullet points, there will be no script. What there will be is honest, difficult, and much-needed conversation intended to serve you as a health worker serving people and communities of color.
This won't be a comfortable conversation and it shouldn't be. I hope you can join me with an open mind and a heart willing to change for the better. Register for this event here. If you can't attend, sign up anyway and receive a link to the recorded conversation. I have a compiled a list of resources and toolkits designed to help you have courageous conversations with your friends, family, co-workers, and allies. Access the resource list here.
